Today we had our second scheduled bargaining session with Princeton’s administration and once again they refused to enter the room due to the presence of 10 observers. As was discussed, and decided on at our last town hall, the Bargaining Committee (BC) submitted a counterproposal earlier this week where we agreed to some of their demands but restated our commitment to open bargaining.
This morning, the BC and 10 observers in the room expressed willingness to move on the number of observers twice to get them to come to the room and start discussing our contract; we also handed them the open bargaining petition that was signed by hundreds of postdocs. However, the admin still refused to enter the room and insisted on their terms in order to start negotiations.
While we are disappointed by Princeton’s refusal to start bargaining and lack of transparency, we are hopeful for progress during the next session scheduled for December 3rd. We will continue to show that postdocs are united and committed to begin bargaining towards a fair contract in a transparent and participatory way.
